OK, new to the forums and am asking for some help with my Girlfriends 335xi... She was coming home yesterday in 40 degree wheather and she said the dash displayed a overheating message, It told her to pull over and shut the car off. She took a photo of the dash it was roughly 225ish.... she waited a while and drove it home...

I checked coolant, oil level, general inspection of hoses, radiator...no leaks, no puddles, etc.... I ran the hose through the front of the radiator, no dirt or anything hampering airflow... I checked the fuse for the fans...ALL GOOD

I started the car to warm it up...everything sounded fine...little ticking noise seemed a bit louder than normal but i did have the hood open and engine shroud off. I was letting it run to see if the electric fans were going to kick on.... I let it run about 15 min when i heard a misfire and looked in the car.... ENGINE MALFUNCTION / REDUCED POWER displayed...I immediately shut the car off and grabbed my ODB scanner... here's what I got

P2178 System too rich off idle speed (Bank 1)
P0087 Fuel Rail Pressure too low
P052B Vehicle Speed Idle Speed Control Auxiliary Imputs

IM totally not sure where to go to from here...if anyone has any input on a possible rough diagnosis so i have a direction to start with ....That would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a couple issues here...

Failing water pump and misfire issue

Get a BMW specific scanner and see if there is a shadow fault for the water pump
