hi, I don't know how to continue a thread so heres more on the
stuck accelerator pedal / throttle body.
I have att pic of the throttle body.
I disconnected both the acc and cruise cables and the the T-BODY was still jammed so its not the cables

Is this an E46? A cable driven throttle body? Must be a very early issue or some exotic model sold to the Aussies....

Phew, at least it looks sort of BMW'ish; when I saw the thread name, I thought our Bimmers had been infected with the Toyota virus. You know, the kind that NASA said didn't exist.

I'm referring to the drive-by-wire issue that Toyota had with its cars, whereby the accelerator got stuck on WOT and the car lost control and crashed. First they claimed it was the cabin rug that got in the way. When that panned out, the got a bunch of boffins from NASA to "scientifically" prove that it was all the drivers' fault. Old geezers that panicked, got confuzzed and stomped on the gas instead of the brakes, or so the result of the investigation read.

Anyway, I knew that older (riper?) E46's from way back to the beginning of their time still had cable-driven throttles, like Smolckie's venerable ride. But the pictures you put up didn't look familiar in terms of the layout of components, hence why I thought it was some model from overseas markets.

Morning all, thanks for your input......... yes it is an Aussie model 2000 e46.
This morning I went out to the car and set fire to it........ just kidding, in actual fact this is the first time this car has ever given us a problem.
I have been servicing it for nearly four years and she has been driving it all that time - never been let down.
To conclude......

I sprayed inside the T/B with wd40 and left it for a while, applied a little pressure by hand to the linkage,
tapped the butterfly gently with the handle of a small screwdriver. It opened easily.
I reckon coz it was sitting for nearly 3 weeks tar or some sticky residue from the fuel just `glued` it shut.
I`ll pickup some carb cleaner later and give it a clean.
cheers Matman
