My girlfriend is pissed that i have probably 5 major parts laying in the living room and kitchen from the E39  . So far i've got the Nokia bandpass enclosure, LCM, extra set of ballasts + bulbs, old DEPO lights (for sale!), and the rear seat bottom (cleaning it).
Anyway, has anyone had the joy of repairing their LCM? I have come to the conclusion that it's purely a heat issue. It seems that on my way to work in the morning when it's cooler outside, the LCM works like a charm. Come lunchtime when it hits 95+, the LCM just takes a doo doo and stops working. The headlights and OBC go bat**** crazy and cause it to speak german, turn the headlights on without me flipping the switch on, and the turn signals stop working. The module goes into a failsafe that turns the lowbeams on, and 1/2 the parking lights in the rear. The brake lights still function though. It's funny, the little electrical gremlins are some of the most annoying things about the car. It seems that they thought of each gremlin ahead of time, and engineered a failsafe mode for it to keep the car safe in any condition just in case you get stuck in the dark or something like this.
I think i will be able to milk this for a LITTLE while longer by keeping the module inside the car with me where the a/c can keep it cool even when it's 100+ outside. I'm not sure i feel like dishing out $300 or so for a new one. If anyone knows if it's possible to re-code a used one, let me know. I have done a bit of research and found mixed results as to if Carsoft, Autologic, or the MODIC (sp?) computer can re-code a non-virgin LCM. Tyrone, i hear you're the man so chime in if you have an idea or two!
