Audio volume resets to lower level

I have premium audio. My radio volume resets to a lower level than the level I was listening at, when I turn off the car.

Is this a design feature, or an oddity?

My experience in every other car, including the BMW 3 and 5 series, is that the audio volume stays where you left it.

The audio does this EVERY time in our '10 M6, but it does not do it in the '10 750i. In the 750i, the volume stays exactly where you left it...even if the car sits for many days. It is SO, SO annoying in the M6 though!!
