I was detailing my car last week and noticed that the shifter knob now, for some strange reason, has developed horizonal cracks. They seem to have spread from the front to the back, 2 on each side. Anyone else had this problem? It is the woodgrain pattern. The knob has not been abused, or hit with anything, so I dont know why they have appeared. Our winters are not that cold, nor has it been hot yet, for a drastic change in cold/hot in the car. The car is a 2004 and these cracks have just appeared in the past month. Any thoughts? :dunno:

Thanks for the ebay link. I guess your car was under warranty when you got it replaced? Mine is out of warranty, so that does not work. Thanks again!

I have not put it on b/c they replaced my burl walnut shifter w/ a new one, but I verified it was authentic with the dealer. I was a little skeptical b/c the bottom stick attachment is plastic, but they are all like that.
Yes, it is for steptronic, they had some other wood ones, and wood/leather combos, all much more then the leather one. I actually like the leather look better than the wood. They do not have the dark burl walnut though, they only have a light walnut in the store...

Here's an easy one... how do I take the cracked one off and install the new one? I've heard that it's simple. Any advice? I've heard of people cracking pieces inside the new shifter, that's the last thing I need...
