His BMW Art Car with co-driver Frank Stella live at the Hockenheimring during the Formula l Grand Prix
Munich/Hockenheim. During the German Formula 1 Grand Prix, BMW will be paying very special homage to the legendary pop artist Andy Warhol. To mark the 30th anniversary of the BMW M1, Warhol's BMW Art Car (1979) will again be taking to the starting grid. The setting for the celebration is the revival of the most spectacular stable trophy in racing history - the BMW M1 Procar series. Both on 19th and 20th July 2008, ten of these cars will be on the starting grid in Hockenheim. Jochen Neerpasch, former head of BMW Motorsport GmbH and initiator of BMW M1 development, will take Andy Warhol's Art Car round the track on a few of laps of honour.
During this spectacular ride, the co-pilot is also bound to look pretty impressive. Frank Stella is not only one of the most significant artists of the 20th century, but also an enthusiastic racing car driver. Moreover, three years before Warhol, he himself designed the BMW 3.0 CSL, a "rolling work of art" which raced at Le Mans in 1976.
Warhol himself was just as enthusiastic as usual: "I love that car. It has turned out better than the artwork".... [Read More]

Munich. In the eight months since BMW's announcement that they would enter the Superbike World Championship in 2009, the project has gathered pace and race fans everywhere have now been able to see the tangible aspects of the project properly for the first time. The new BMW S 1000 RR has been tested at various racetracks in Spain, but it has now had its first test at a track used by the Superbike World Championship - the Eurospeedway Lausitzring.
The German circuit was on the WSBK calendar up to last season and the recent two day test gave the team a chance to compare their lap times and performance with last year's race weekend. At the end of the test, the team and the three test riders were all happy with the progress of the bike and eager to work on analysing all the data before moving on to the next stage in the bike's development.
The three riders, Steve Martin, Kevin Curtain and Jeremy McWilliams, said "The basics of the S 1000 RR are very good, the engine has good power, the chassis and suspension are working well and the bike has the basis of a Superbike racer already." This sentiment was echoed by BMW Motorrad Motorsport's General Manager Berti Hauser, who added, "I am very happy with the... [Read More]

Formula One welcomes back the German Grand Prix following an absence of two years. 2008 also sees the return of Hockenheim to the calendar, after the Nürburgring hosted a round of the 2007 World Championship under the banner of the European Grand Prix. Silverstone (GB). After a flawless drive and numerous good overtaking manoeuvres Nick Heidfeld took second place for the BMW Sauber F1 Team in what was a wet and fairly chaotic British Grand Prix. This was his third runner-up spot of the season, and the team's seventh podium. While everything, including the right tyre choice at each pit stop, paid off for Heidfeld, his team mate Robert Kubica slid off the slippery track after his second pit stop.
Weather: wet track with heavy rain showers. Air: 16-18°C, Track: 17-21°C
Nick Heidfeld: 2nd - BMW Sauber F1.08-07 / BMW P86/8
Fastest Lap: 1:32.719 min on lap 21 (2nd fastest overall)
"It was a good race. I am happy with second place because today it was the best I could achieve. Qualifying went well and in the race we did everything right. Obviously it was crucial to make the right tyre decisions. At the first stop we were wondering if we should stay with the used set of inters, but luckily we then decided on new tyres. We were expecting a small shower, but when I drove down Hanger Straight and saw a black wall in front of me I thought I should expect more than that! The most difficult moments in the race were when cars were overtaking me who had been lapped, but were just on better tyres for the conditions at that time. There was so much water and I couldn't see where it was lying. Once before Abbey I almost spun, but just managed to keep the car on the track."
